History
COSTFACT’s history dates back to 2001 when Jan Fischer established the GKP – Gesellschaft für kostenorientierte Produktentwicklung (“Association for cost-efficient design”) in partnership with the Controlling Department of Technical University Chemnitz, Germany. Focusing mainly on plant manufacturing, the business of GKP was to establish a cost management at the clients’ companies, that already takes place in the process of design and engineering.
Although the focus was on consulting services, soon the demand for IT tools arose. These tools supported efficient management of cost information or statistical cost analyses of existing products. Another task was to set up digital cost mock-ups for new solutions. The value gained by the tools led inevitably to the idea of consolidating the different isolated applications to an integrative and comprehensive cost management system. After the successful implementation of this costing system at several plant manufacturers, in 2008 the step to the maritime sector was made. In this context, various adaptions for the special demands of the shipbuilding industry were implemented. This conversion was supported by the Department of Design and Operation of Maritime Systems, Technical University Berlin.
The solution tailored to shipbuilding was named “CostFact” and the company “COSTFACT GmbH”, arisen from GKP, is meanwhile acting exclusively as producer and seller of this software for the maritime industry. Several Partners guarantee the lasting development of CostFact and reliable customer support.
